Problem
Managing campus finances is often fragmented and inefficient. Existing systems require users to navigate multiple screens to check balances, track spending, or complete basic tasks. This lack of clarity and accessibility makes it difficult for users to stay aware of their finances and manage them effectively.

Tiger Track is a campus finance system designed to help students manage their on-campus spending, including balances, transactions, and deposits. As a tool used frequently in day-to-day student life, it plays a key role in helping users stay aware of their financial activity and make informed decisions.
The experience focuses on simplifying how this information is accessed and understood. Instead of navigating through multiple steps, the system brings key financial insights such as balances, spending patterns, and transaction history closer to the surface.

Design Process
How students currently navigate Tiger Spend and where the experience breaks down
Identifying recurring pain points in how students access, track, and manage their finances
Reframing the experience into a more intuitive, accessible, and connected financial workflow
Simplifying key actions like checking balances, making deposits, and tracking spending
Reducing effort while improving clarity, visibility, and overall financial awareness
01
Understanding the Current Experience
The current Tiger Spend system enables students to manage balances, view transactions, and perform essential financial tasks. While the system is functional, accessing and understanding key information requires navigating across multiple sections, making everyday interactions less efficient and intuitive.

02
From Problems to Patterns
Understanding how students interact with the system and where they experience friction
To move beyond surface-level issues, user behavior was examined through a combination of survey responses and pattern analysis. These insights helped identify recurring challenges in how students access, navigate, and interpret their financial information.
User-Reported Friction
A quick survey highlights common friction points in day-to-day interactions, particularly around accessing information, navigating the system, and understanding financial data.

Identifying Patterns using Affinity Diagram
To move beyond isolated issues, observations were grouped to identify recurring patterns in how users interact with the system. These patterns showed that users rely on exploration and memory rather than clear structure, making simple tasks feel effortful.

03
Defining the Direction
Translating insights into a clearer, faster, and more intuitive financial experience. Insights from user behavior, survey responses, and pattern analysis revealed consistent friction in navigation, clarity, and task completion. These findings informed a set of guiding principles and requirements aimed at simplifying how students access and manage their finances.
Design Goals
01
Surface essential information upfront
Balances, transactions, and key actions should be immediately visible without navigation.
02
Reduce effort for frequent actions
Common tasks like checking balance and adding funds should require fewer steps.
03
Improve clarity of financial information
Financial data should be structured, scannable, and easy to understand.
04
Create smoother, connected task flows
Interactions should feel seamless, reducing back-and-forth navigation between sections.
Structuring the Flow
Based on these principles, the system was restructured to simplify navigation and create more direct access to key financial tasks.
The updated flow reduces reliance on menus and brings frequently used actions closer to the core experience.

04
Designing the Solution
The redesigned experience focuses on simplifying access to key financial information while reducing effort for everyday tasks.
Each screen is designed to support quick interactions, clear understanding, and seamless navigation.
